Cortona - Under The Tuscan Sun

Spent a nice relaxing day in Cortona. Yes, the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane was based off this town!

This was the ideal Tuscan town to visit for me! Small, with not so many tourists and a great view! This town sits on top of a hill. It's amazing to see it from below! You take a bus to the top and you can see so much!

Piazza Garibaldi

Beautiful little town! :)

Their main square. Piazza della Repubblica. This town is small so all the locals know each other. It's so cool to see them come out and sit around the main square and chat with each other. Or as they pass each other walking on the streets and greet each other!

Soaking it all in! n_n

Church of St. Francis

The wooden beams of the ceiling at Church of St. Francis are the original from the 13th century!

Houses here a small but full of charm

Santa Margherita Basilica - this is at the top of the hill. Like another 10 minute walk (all uphill) from the main square.

The Duomo of Cortona. Not like the other Duomo's  in other towns. Plain and simple.

Inside the Duomo

The town cemetery

so many ups and downs in this town. They have this one main road that is the only level road in town. Via Nazionale. To the right you'll find hills/stairs that go up. To the left you find downward steps and roads.

Stracciatella gelato! Chocolate chip! YUM

I absolutely loved the view from Piazza Garibaldi! Especially at sunset when the sun makes the towns are orangey and yellowy! :) So pretty!

Dinner - Pici noodles with truffle sauce! Goodness... such a big portion!

Next post: Cinque Terre!!!!!! :)
